W: BRESSLER, Jenny (11-5)
L: Toone, Kapri (3-8)
LOGAN, Utah – Utah State softball (10-18, 2-7 MW) wrapped up a three-game series against UNLV Sunday, falling to the Rebels, 17-0, in five innings.
UNLV dominated the game from the beginning, scoring six runs in the first inning, including a grand slam. The Rebels went on to add another six in the second inning, batting through their order a second time. UNLV also scored in each of the next three innings, but slowed its pace. The final stamp on the game came in a three-run home run in the top of the fifth.
A bright spot on the day for Utah State was the pitching of junior
Chloe Nightingale. The third pitcher of the day for the Aggies, Nightingale pitched the majority of the game. In her 3.2 innings of work, she struck out eight Rebel batters, more than doubling her career high.
UNLV pitcher Jenny Bressler had a perfect game going Sunday, a bid that was ended by freshman second baseman
Zaia Castruita. In the bottom of the fifth, Castruita hit a single to right field. She later took second on a wild pitch, but was left on base at the end of the game.
The Aggies return to the road next weekend for a three-game series at Boise State. USU and the Broncos will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 17, starting at noon. The final game is set for noon on Sunday, April 18.
