LOGAN, Utah – Utah State men's tennis (12-6, 3-2 MW) opened its final weekend of home competition Friday, defeating Air Force, 4-2. 

Air Force took the early lead with a quick win of the doubles point. The Falcons posted victories in the Nos. 1 and 3 spots to clinch the point, leaving the No. 2 match unfinished. 

Utah State responded well in singles, though, quickly tying the score. Aggies swept the first sets of the top four singles matches, going on to win three contests. Fifth-year Sergiu Bucur was the first to secure a victory, doing so in a straight-set win (6-0, 6-3) over Paul Hendrix at No. 1. The sweeps continued, as sophomore Roko Savin and senior Felipe Acosta each won in two sets to give USU the 3-1 lead. Savin defeated Jonathan Mascagni (6-3, 7-5) at the No. 4 spot, followed shortly by Acosta who topped Justin Waldman (6-4, 6-3) in the No. 3 position. 

Air Force took a point back with a win at No. 2 singles, but Aggie sophomore Javier Ruiz clinched the match, defeating Sean McKendree (6-2, 6-3) in the No. 5 position. Sophomore Arvid Hjalte was tied 5-5 in the first set of his match at No. 6, but it was left unfinished.

Utah State will wrap-up the home portion of its season on Sunday, April 18, when it hosts league-leading New Mexico at 11 a.m. The match is scheduled to be played on the outdoor courts at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club.
