USU Softball Set for Four-Game Week

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State softball (10-21, 2-10 MW) continues its 2021 season with four games this week. The Aggies will play at Utah Valley (19-21, 5-5 WAC) on Wednesday, April 21, at 4 p.m., then host San Diego State (20-12, 5-7 MW) for a three-game Mountain West series. The Aggies and Aztecs will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 24, starting at noon, followed by a single game on Sunday, April 25, at noon.

Wednesday's game will be streamed live on the WAC Digital Network, with live stats provided by StatBroadcast. This weekend's series will be streamed live and for free via the Mountain West Network. Live stats will also be provided for each of the games against the Aztecs. Links to each option are posted on the team schedule on the USU Athletics website, and will be available on the social media pages prior to each game.

Utah Valley welcomes the Aggies to Orem with a 19-21 overall record, coming off a pair of wins at Boise State earlier this week. As a team, the Wolverines are batting .269 (285-of-1059), led by junior infielder Rien Milliken who is hitting .375 (36-of-96) on the year. The seven Utah Valley pitchers have a combined ERA of 4.73, with senior Devyn Cretz leading the group with a 2.84 ERA and a 13-10 record. Stacy May-Johnson is in her second season as the head coach at UVU, where she has an overall record of 31-18. The Aggies lead the all-time series against the Wolverines, 24-13, but Utah Valley has won the two previous meetings this season.

San Diego State makes the trip to Logan with a 20-12 overall record, including a 5-7 ledger in Mountain West play. The Aztecs are hitting .264 (229-of-867) on the year, led by a .327 (32-of-98) batting average from redshirt freshman infielder Jillian Celis. Four pitchers have seen time in the circle for San Diego State, posting a combined ERA  of 2.92. Junior Maggie Balint leads the group with a 12-6 record and a 1.94 ERA. Kathy Van Wyk is in her 25th season as the head coach at SDSU, where she has compiled a 798-553-1 record. The Aztecs lead the all-time series against the Aggies, 21-9. 

For the Aggies, freshman second baseman Zaia Castruita leads the team at the plate, batting .306 (26-of-85). In the circle, freshman Jessica Stewart leads with a 4.18 ERA in her 14 appearances. As a team, USU is hitting .235 (196-of-835) and has a combined ERA of 4.81.
