W: MOFFAT-KORTH (10-8)
L: Stewart, Jessica (4-6)
PROVO, Utah – Utah State softball (10-15, 2-4 MW) played a midweek in-state rivalry game Tuesday, falling at BYU, 4-0.
The Cougars got on the board in the bottom of the second with a solo home run. They then followed that with a three-run third inning. After a lead-off home run, a walk and a pair of singles brought another two runs across.
BYU retired 11-straight Aggie batters through the bulk of the game. Junior designated player
Emily Tidd was finally able to snap the skid, hitting a single up the middle in the sixth inning. Utah State made one last push in the top of the seventh, getting two runners on through back-to-back singles. Unfortunately, a strikeout ended the attempt and the game.
Freshman
Jessica Stewart started in the circle for the Aggies, throwing four innings before being relieved by junior
Kapri Toone. Stewart struck out two batters, while the two pitchers combined for three walks. Utah State tallied four hits while allowing five from the Cougars.
The Aggies return home now to host UNLV for a three-game conference series. USU and the Rebels will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 10, starting at noon. The third game is set to begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 11.
