LOGAN, Utah - Utah State head soccer coach Manny Martins has announced the addition of Erin Carrillo-Bautista as an assistant coach, with the duo having already served on the same coaching staff at the University of Oregon and at Lane United in the USL League 2.
"I could not be more excited to bring Erin to Logan as part of our coaching staff. He has a great soccer mind and will be very influential in the continuous development of our student-athletes," Martins said. "His experience working with me for the last three years will allow us to speed up our preparation for the season."
Carrillo-Bautista was an assistant coach under Martins with Lane United heading into the 2021 season, and helped with all aspects of the team, including training, scouting and day-to-day operations. Carrillo-Bautista was active at the club level in Eugene and was an assistant coach for the Eugene Timbers club program, coaching various age groups. He cultivated more coaching experience as a volunteer assistant at Bushnell University, an NAIA program in Eugene.
"I want to thank head coach Manny Martins for this wonderful opportunity. I am super excited to get to Logan and get to work with the staff and student-athletes," Carrillo-Bautista said. "It is now our job to make sure we fulfill the expectations and to make sure this program is consistently competing at the highest level.
"I also want to thank Graeme Abel, Rachael Doyle and Thomas Osborne back at the University of Oregon for helping me understand the amount of preparation that goes into building a successful team environment," he continued. "To all the student-athletes and support staff, thank you for letting me learn every single day as it has prepared me for this new opportunity."
Martins and Carrillo-Bautista first met at the University of Oregon, where Carrillo-Bautista was serving as the team manager for the women's soccer program. There, Carrillo-Bautista was able to take part in team film sessions and gained valuable insights on tactical analysis, as well as oppositional analysis. During his time there he was also able to learn the amount of preparation and attention to detail that goes into building a successful team environment.
As a player, Carrillo-Bautista was brought up through Timbers Academy in Portland, Ore., while also playing club with the Washington Timbers. Carrillo-Bautista was recruited by several Division II and Division III programs before he stepped away from playing to focus on a degree at Oregon, graduating with a dual major in Spanish and sports business.
