LOGAN, Utah – Utah State head volleyball coach
Rob Neilson has announced the team's 2021 competition slate on Wednesday afternoon.
Highlighting this fall's schedule are two tournaments, as well as matches against three in-state opponents. The Aggies will face three teams that played in the NCAA Tournament in the spring 2021 season in Weber State, Utah Valley and UNLV.
USU will play Boise State and Fresno State just once apiece, but will face the other eight conference teams twice each.
"We can't wait to begin the Fall 2021 season," Neilson said. "Our team has improved dramatically over the last season, and we've added high-level recruits we expect to contribute immediately. We are on the rise and we're ready to take our program to the next level. Most importantly, we can't wait to play in front of our fans, friends and families in a packed Estes Center."
Utah State will open the 2021 campaign at home as it hosts the annual Utah State Invitational on Kirby Court inside the Wayne Estes Center, Aug. 27-28. The tournament will feature North Dakota, Seton Hall and Weber State.
The Aggies then continue tournament play as they travel to Bozeman, Montana, to compete at the Montana State-hosted Bobcat Invitational Sept. 3-4, where they will take on Portland, Arkansas and Montana State. The team will then head to Moraga, California, on Friday, Sept. 10, where it will take on CSU Bakersfield and host-team St. Mary's.
Utah State will remain in the Bay Area as they then travel to face San Francisco on Saturday, Sept. 11. The non-conference portion of the schedule will conclude with a trio of regional opponents, as the Aggies head on the road to face Utah Valley on Tuesday, Sept. 14, and Southern Utah on Wednesday, Sept. 15, before returning home to take on Idaho State on Saturday, Sept. 18.
Mountain West play will open with a two-game road trip, starting on Thursday, Sept. 23, with a match at Wyoming followed by a match on Saturday, Sept. 25, at Colorado State. The team will then return home to face Nevada and San José State on Thursday, Sept. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 2, respectively.
The month of October will continue with USU playing a pair of road matches, first against New Mexico on Thursday, Oct. 7, then Air Force on Saturday, Oct. 9. The Aggies then play host to UNLV on Thursday, Oct. 14, and San Diego State on Saturday, Oct. 16. A road match at Boise State will follow on Tuesday, Oct. 19, with Fresno State traveling to Logan on Saturday, Oct. 23.
Utah State will kick off another two-game road trip starting at San Diego State on Thursday, Oct. 28, followed by a game against UNLV on Saturday, Oct. 30. The month of November opens at home for USU as it plays host to Air Force and New Mexico with matches on Thursday, Nov. 11, and Saturday, Nov. 13, respectively
The final road trip of the season for the Aggies will begin on Thursday, Nov. 11, at San José State, followed by a match at Nevada on Saturday, Nov. 13. The regular season comes to a close with back-to-back home games on Thursday, Nov. 18, and Saturday, Nov. 20, against Colorado State and Wyoming, respectively.
For the first time since the 2007 season, the Mountain West Conference will host a conference tournament, which was set to return last season before it was canceled due to COVID-19. The Mountain West Tournament will take place Dec. 2-4 in Las Vegas.
