LOGAN, Utah - Utah State head soccer coach Manny Martins has announced the addition of Jack Rushworth as a volunteer assistant coach with the program. Rushworth is anticipated to work with USU keepers after filling similar roles at Penn State and Austin Peay.
"I'm really excited to be working with Manny and the players at Utah State," Rushworth said. "USU offers a great environment for everyone to be successful, and I'm thrilled to be able to help facilitate this success and take the program to new heights."
Rushworth joins the Aggies after serving as a volunteer assistant with women's soccer at Penn State during the 2020-21 season. The Nittany Lions finished the year with an overall mark of 12-3-1, including a 9-1-1 ledger in the Big Ten to capture the regular season conference championship. Penn State posted back-to-back victories in the NCAA Tournament before falling to No. 1 seed Florida State.
Prior to his time in Happy Valley, Rushworth was a graduate assistant at Austin Peay State University from 2018-20, helping the Governors to the first round of the 2019 OVC tournament and earning their highest seed since the 2016 season.
"I could not be more excited to have Jack join our coaching staff," Martins said. "He is first and foremost, an individual of high character with an incredible work ethic. Jack is also a very talented coach with experience working with some very successful programs. His attention to detail and commitment to process excellence will be a tremendous asset to our goalkeepers and the team as a whole."
Rushworth played collegiately at Tennessee Wesleyan, suiting up for the Bulldogs from 2014-18. Rushworth also worked with the women's team at TWU, serving as a volunteer assistant and goalkeepers coach during the 2017 season and leading the team to the NAIA National Quarterfinal round, the best ever post-season finish for a TWU women's athletic team in school history. Under Rushworth's watch, TWU starting keeper McKenna Loges was named all-Appalachian Athletic Conference in 2017 and was an NAIA All-American. Loges finished her career with the most shutouts in a single season in school history and ranks second all-time in goals allowed in a single season.
Following his playing career, Rushworth played one season with the Knoxville Force in the National Premier Soccer League.
Rushworth graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan with a degree in sports psychology and completed a master's degree at Austin Peay in coaching. Rushworth holds a goalkeeping coaching diploma and a D license with U.S. Soccer.
