Utah State’s Felipe Acosta Named First-Team Academic All-District

Acosta earns second-straight first-team academic all-district honor

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State men's tennis senior Felipe Acosta (Chascomus, Argentina) has been named first-team academic all-District 8, as announced by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The award is the second-straight for Acosta in as many years.

The 2021 academic all-district men's at-large team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. Honorees selected first-team academic all-district will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early August.

Acosta was all-Mountain West in both singles and doubles last year, compiling an overall mark of 9-7 in singles at the No. 2 and 3 spots. All but one of his victories in singles during the year came in straight sets as he also posted an 8-12 mark in doubles alongside Javier Ruiz, playing at the top of the Aggie lineup.

Acosta graduated from Utah State with a degree in international business and finance and is currently pursuing a master's degree in financial economics. He is a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete (2018, 2019, 2020), Mountain West Scholar-Athlete (2018, 2019, 2020) and Academic all-Mountain West honoree (2018, 2019, 2020), and is a four-time USU Whitesides Scholar-Athlete honoree (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021). Additionally, Acosta was one of four recognized with the Joe E. Whitesides Scholar-Athlete award, celebrating the top student-athletes at Utah State. 

Acosta was one of 10 student-athletes selected from the district, compromised of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Canada. Acosta was joined by Stanford seniors Tyler Abramson (water polo), Axel Geller (tennis) and Alex Liang (swimming), Stanford junior Shane Griffith (wrestling), Cal senior Nate Biondi (swimming), BYU graduate Miki Jauhiainen (volleyball), Arizona senior David Laskin (golf), UCLA graduate Nicolas Saveljic (water polo) and Arizona State senior Anthony Valencia (wrestling).
