LOGAN, Utah – Former Utah State football player Spain Musgrove has died. He was 76.

Musgrove was a two-year starter along the defensive line for the Aggies during the 1965 and 1966 seasons, and earned honorable mention All-America honors from The Sporting News
following his senior campaign.

During Musgrove's time at Utah State, the Aggies went 8-2 in 1965, winning their first seven games of the season, which included a 34-21 home win over BYU. As a senior in 1966, USU won its final four games of the year to finish with a 4-6 ledger, highlighted by a 13-7 win in front of 20,176 fans at Utah.

Musgrove came to Utah State from Bakersfield (California) College, where he was a Junior College All-American. He began his Aggie career wearing No. 79, but switched to No. 00 for his senior season. The cousin of former USU All-American basketball player Cornell Green is the only player in school history to wear No. 00.

Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 275 pounds, Musgrove was selected in the second round (38th overall) of the 1967 NFL Draft by The Washington Football Team, where he would play from 1967-69. He was then claimed off waivers in 1970 by the Houston Oilers, where he played his final season.

Musgrove was born on July 30, 1945, in Kansas City, Missouri.
