LOGAN, Utah – Utah State soccer extended its unbeaten streak Thursday, posting a 2-0 home win over Northern Colorado.
The Aggies took control early, netting two goals in the first eight minutes of the match. Senior defender
Imelda Williams scored her second goal in as many games, putting USU on the board in the fifth minute. The first corner kick of the contest found its way to sophomore midfielder
Alysia Butters. The ball then deflected off the Northern Colorado where Williams found the back of the net.
Just three minutes later, senior forward
Sammie Murdock scored her first collegiate goal. Senior midfielder
Ashley Cardozo delivered a cross deep into the corner of the penalty box, where Murdock headed it into the net.
While the scoring stalled through the remainder of the first half, the Aggies maintained possession in the attacking third. Utah State finished the first half with eight shots to Northern Colorado's two.
The slower attacking pace continued into the second half. Utah State fired off an additional seven shots in the final 45 minutes, but with just one on goal. Junior goalkeeper
Diera Walton recorded just one save in the match, as the Aggie defense held the Bears off.
Head coach
Manny Martins continued to play deep into the bench Thursday, as 25 Aggies saw time on the field in the victory. Freshman midfielder
Grace Nicol made her collegiate debut, subbing in in the 86th minute.
