LOGAN, Utah – Utah State football held its second practice of fall camp Saturday as the team worked on skill development, fundamentals and special teams, followed by 1-on-1 and 7-on-7 drills, and a live 11-on-11 session to conclude the morning's session.
As part of the NCAA's five-day acclimation period, Utah State practiced for the second-straight day in helmets, and will now add shoulder pads to Sunday and Monday's workouts, before doning full pads on Tuesday, Aug. 10.
Here are a few observations from Saturday's practice:
- Junior quarterbacks Andrew Peasley and Logan Bonner are taking all the reps with the first two units and both signal-callers have played well. Peasley was a combined 10-of-16 in live drills, which included a nice deep ball to senior wideout Deven Thompkins. Bonner was 13-of-16 in live drills, including a long completion to junior wide receiver Justin McGriff.
- McGriff's impressive play from spring camp has continued this fall as he had five receptions during live work.
- Thompkins, and fellow senior wideout Derek Wright, also shined during the live sessions with three receptions each.
- Redshirt freshman wide receiver Jaime Nance, a transfer from Nebraska, showed his breakaway speed with a pair of long touchdown receptions during 1-on-1 drills.
- Junior safety Hunter Reynolds, a graduate transfer from Michigan, intercepted a pass for the second-straight day in fall camp.
- Three other Aggies had interceptions during live work, including senior safety Shaq Bond, and senior cornerbacks Andre Grayson and Zahodri Jackson.
