Party Like it's 2016 or 2010 or 2008 or 2003
Utah State's 2-0 start in league play is its best start since the 2016 campaign. The Aggies have started their conference season 3-0 four times in school history.
Ranked Among the Region's Best
• Utah State is currently ranked eighth in the Pacific Region of the United Soccer Coaches' poll, representing the only team in the MW and one of only two teams outside the Pac-12 appearing in the poll. The Pacific Region is made up of teams from the Western Athletic Conference, Pac-12 and MW.
• The Aggies have a better winning percentage than all but two teams on the list.
MW Offensive Player of the Week
• Senior forward Jordan Foraker is the reigning Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week after recording both the Aggies' game-winning goals against Nevada and UNLV last week.
• On the year, each of Foraker's five shots have been on goal.
Atop the Mountain West
• Senior midfielder Ashley Cardozo leads the MW in total points (18) behind five goals (third in the MW) and a league-best eight assists. Cardozo has recorded two assists in three matches this season, marking the most multiple-assist games by the same player in the MW this season.
• Junior keeper Diera Walton leads the MW with four shutouts this season and is second in goals-against-average (.684) and total saves (48). Walton's 11 saves at BYU on September 18 are tied for the second-most by a keeper in the MW this season.
• As a team, Utah State is second in the league in goals allowed (8), total shots (145) and total corner kicks (55), and ranks third in total saves (48). The Aggies are tops in the conference with an .857 save percentage and 22 total assists.
Series Against New Mexico
Utah State is 2-6-2 all-time against the Lobos, including a 1-3-1 mark on the road. In the last meeting between the two teams, USU came away with a 1-0 victory in Logan, despite playing with only 10 players over the final 30 minutes. Senior defender Imelda Williams recorded the game winner in the 53rd minute off a corner kick delivered by senior forward Marli Niederhauser.
Series Against San Diego State
The Aggies are 0-7-2 all-time against the Aztecs, including an 0-2-2 record in San Diego. The teams did not play last season because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the last meeting in San Diego finished in a 2-2 draw during the 2018 season. Senior midfielder Ashley Cardozo assisted both goals during the match.
Opposing Connections
New Mexico associate head coach Karley Nelson grew up in Orem, Utah. Utah State freshman defender Emma Becerra originally committed to the Lobos before switching to Utah State. Becerra, sophomore midfielder Alex Day and sophomore defender Peyton Lumanog all call the Golden State home, growing up in Corona, Chino Hills and Anaheim, respectively.
She's Going the Distance
Sophomore defender Kelsey Steed-Kaufusi and junior keeper Diera Walton are the only two Aggies on the roster to play in every minute of every contest this season.
