LOGAN, Utah – Utah State volleyball (10-5, 2-1 MW) opened its home Mountain West slate Thursday in a 3-1 win over Nevada (3-11, 0-3 MW).
The Aggies took the early lead with a 25-22 win in the first set, before the Wolf Pack evened things up with a 25-19 victory in the second. The third set was the tightest of the night, with USU coming out on top, 25-23. The Aggies then controlled the fourth set, securing the match with a 25-18 win.
USU had to fight through a tough Nevada offense, as the Wolf Pack hit .221 (49-22-122) on the night to the Aggies' .191 (50-25-131).
Junior middle blocker Kennedi Boyd led the Aggie offense, hitting a career-best .647 (13-2-17). Sophomore outside hitter Tatum Stall joined her in double figures with 12 kills. Sophomore libero Abby Peterson recorded a team-high 13 digs, while both setters, freshman Beatriz Rodrigues and junior Kalena Vaivai put up 17 assists. Boyd was also the leading blocker for the Aggies with four.
Utah State will close the week in a home match against San José State on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 1 p.m.
