SEATTLE, Washington — Utah State lost its first road match of the season, 7-0, to Washington on Friday night. 

At the one spot in doubles play, juniors David Cierny and Bodin Zarkovic fought to a 3-3 tie before falling to Jack Davis and Brandon Wong, 6-4. Senior Felipe Acosta and Mico Fenollar also battled to a close 6-4 defeat at the hands of Ewen Lumsden and Cesar Bouchelaghem. Sophomore Jack Ninteman and junior Javier Ruiz had their match versus Nedim Suko and Clement Chidekh suspended at a 4-4 draw.

In singles play, five of six matches ended in straight sets. Cierny fell to Chidekh, 6-0, 6-2. Zarkovic also fell short versus Lumsden, 6-2, 6-1. Acosta came close to a first-set win before falling to Davis, 7-5, 6-3. Making his Aggie debut, senior Maksymilian Raupuk lost to Suko, 6-3, 6-3. Ruiz also came up short in the six-spot in a 6-4, 6-1 loss to Bouchelaghem.

Mico Fenollar won USU's only set of singles play, fending off UW's Han-Chih Linfor a 7-5 win in the first set. After being pushed to a third set, the freshman had a 9-7 advantage in a third-set super-tiebreak before eventually losing 6-7, 6-2, 11-9.

Utah State will have an immediate opportunity to get back into the win column with a match versus Idaho taking place in Seattle tomorrow at 3 pm (MT).
