SAN JOSE, Calif. – Utah State volleyball (10-5, 2-2 Mountain West) lost 3-1 to San José State (10-4, 4-0 MW) on Saturday.
The Aggies started off strong with a 25-23 set one victory. USU jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after a kill from junior outside hitter

Jordi Holdaway and Spartan attack error. Back-to-back Stall kills later gave Utah State the 17-11 edge. SJSU tied it up at 21-apiece before a 3-0 USU spurt gave the Aggies set point 24-21. The Spartans scored twice more before redshirt freshman outside
Kaylie Ray clinched the set one victory with a kill.

Kylee Stokes gave Utah State the 6-5 advantage in set two. A 5-1 San José State run then gave the Spartans the 10-7 lead. After a Stall kill trimmed the margin to 13-10, SJSU closed out the set with a 12-5 spurt for the 25-15 win.
San José State took an early 7-2 lead in set three before a 9-2 Utah State run, capped by a Stokes kill, put the Aggies on top 11-9. After the Spartans took the lead, back-to-back kills from Stall and senior outside
Shelby Capllonch trimmed the margin to 20-19. However, a 4-0 SJSU run put San José State at set point 24-19. Utah State chipped at the margin before a Spartan kill gave SJSU the 25-22 victory.

Myrthe Maring gave USU the 4-3 advantage in set four, but that would be the Aggies' last lead of the match as SJSU won the set 25-16.
Overall, Utah State hit .188 (48-24-128), while San José State hit .346 (54-17-107). Capllonch led the Aggies with 13 kills, followed by Stall with 11. Freshman setter
Leah Wilton-LaBoy had a team-best 17 assists, followed closely by sophomore setter
Beatriz Rodrigues with 16.
Defensively, USU was led by Boyd with five blocks and Holdaway with eight digs.
Utah State begins a three-match homestand by hosting San Diego State (4-11, 2-2 MW) on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m.
