LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Utah State volleyball (13-5, 5-3 Mountain West) lost 3-2 to UNLV (15-3, 6-1 MW) in Las Vegas on Thursday.
After falling 25-22 in both sets one and two, USU bounced back in the third for the 25-16 win. A kill from senior outside hitter
Shelby Capllonch, service ace from senior middle blocker
Kennedi Boyd and Rebel attacking error gave the Aggies the 5-2 lead in set three. The teams went back and forth until an 8-2 Utah State run extended the margin to 19-9. UNLV cut the lead to six at 21-15, but a kill from graduate middle blocker
Myrthe Maring, Capllonch service aces, block from Maring and sophomore opposite side hitter
Adna Mehmedovic, and Rebel service error secured the 25-16 USU victory.
The Aggies came out hot in set four, jumping out to a 7-1 lead. UNLV trimmed the margin down to one 13-12. A 4-0 USU run that included a pair of Capllonch kills as well as a Capllonch and Boyd block extended the edge to 20-14. UNLV responded with a quick 3-0 run, but USU closed out the set with a 5-0 spurt, capped by a Capllonch kill, for the 25-17 win.
UNLV closed out the match with a 15-8 set five win.
Overall, USU hit .213 (55-21-150), while UNLV hit .191 (55-26-152).
Capllonch and junior outside hitter
Tatum Stall finished the night with double-doubles as Capllonch had 14 kills and 20 digs, while Stall had 11 kills and 19 digs. Mehmedovic also recorded double-digit kills with 11.

Jordi Holdaway led the Aggies with 22 digs and Boyd posted a team-best three blocks. Sophomore setter
Beatriz Rodrigues led USU with 24 assists, followed by freshman setter
Leah Wilton-LaBoy with 18.
Utah State next takes on Wyoming (7-12, 3-4 MW) in Laramie on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 6:30 p.m.
