LOGAN, Utah – Utah State volleyball (14-7, 6-4 Mountain West) lost 3-1 to Colorado State (15-6, 8-2 MW) inside the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum on Saturday night.
Senior outside hitter
Shelby Capllonch led the Aggies with a double-double of 13 kills and 11 digs. Senior opposite side hitter
Kylee Stokes and junior outside
Tatum Stall added 10 kills each.
Sophomore setter
Beatriz Rodrigues had a team-best 24 assists, followed by freshman setter
Leah Wilton-LaBoy with 13. Senior middle blocker
Kennedi Boyd finished the night with a match-best five blocks.
Set one stayed close early until a 4-0 Ram run gave Colorado State the 11-6 lead. The Aggies chipped away at the margin until a kill from sophomore opposite side hitter
Adna Mehmedovic followed by a block from Mehmedovic and redshirt freshman middle blocker
Bella Wooden cut the lead to 15-14. However, CSU continued to hold on to its lead for the 25-23 win.
Colorado State extended its lead to 2-0 with a 25-14 set two victory.
Utah State came out hot in set three, jumping out to an early 8-2 lead. After some back and forth, kills from Stall and Boyd, along with a Stall service ace, gave USU the 17-9 advantage. Back-to-back kills from Capllonch and Stall later extended the margin to 22-13. A Mehmedovic hammer gave the Aggies set point and a Ram attack error secured the 25-17 USU victory.
After Colorado State took a 4-0 lead in set four, Utah State countered with kills from junior middle blocker
Inka Mehtola and Mehmedovic, as well as a Mehmedovic block, to trim the lead to 4-3. A 7-2 USU run, capped by a Boyd service ace, later gave the Aggies a 12-8 advantage. The teams went back and forth until a 10-2 CSU run gave the Rams the 21-18 lead. The teams traded points to close out the set as Colorado State won 25-22.
Overall, USU hit .208 (51-24-130), while CSU hit .264 (52-18-129).
Utah State next travels to Boise, Idaho, to take on Boise State (14-7, 6-4 MW) on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m.
