David Cierny and
Bodin Zarkovic fell in the first round of singles and doubles play at the ITA All-American Championships on Monday.
The ITA All-American Championships feature many of the top-ranked players in the country. Singles players and doubles partners are selected for the tournament via automatic qualifiers, at-large and wild card slots via regional representatives and preseason national rankings.
Opening doubles play against Mississippi State's Nemanja Malesevic and Gregor Ramskogler, the No. 52-ranked doubles team in the nation in the preseason ITA poll, the Aggies fell in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
In singles play Cierny and Zarkovic each won the first set of their respective matches but ultimately fell short in the Round of 128. Zarkovic fell to Tulsa's Daniel Siddall, 5-7, 7-5, 6-1, while Cierny lost to Stanford's Samir Banerjee, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. Banerjee was ranked ninth among freshman and newcomers in the nation in the preseason ITA poll.
Utah State will continue its fall tournament season this weekend at the Idaho State Invitational on Friday through Sunday, Oct. 7-9.
