LOGAN, Utah - Utah State will look to snap a two-game losing streak when the Aggies travel to San Diego State to face the Aztecs on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 8 p.m. (MT).
Opening Tips
• SDSU leads the all-time series 14-9, including a 7-1 advantage in games played in San Diego. The Aztecs have won each of the last seven games inside Viejas Arena, but Utah State has won six of the last nine overall.
• In the first meeting this season, Utah State handed San Diego State its largest defeat this season, a 75-57 decision in Logan. The 18-point margin marked the second-largest for USU in series history.
• Utah State and San Diego State have faced each of the last three years in the MW Championship, with the Aggies capturing titles in 2019 and 2020.
• Over the last seven games, Utah State has scored 70 or more points in each game and is 15-5 on the year when eclipsing the 70-point mark.
• Over the same seven-game stretch, Utah State has pulled down as many or more rebounds than the opposition in each contest. The Aggies are 14-3 on the year when winning the battle of the boards.
• Utah State has also outscored each of its last seven opponents in the paint, holding a 254-196 advantage down low.
• Scoring from its starting backcourt has been a key for the Aggies as Utah State has only lost one game this season when its starting backcourt outscores its counterpart.
• Utah State's leading scorers, senior forward Justin Bean (18.4 ppg), senior forward Brandon Horvath (13.7 ppg) and junior guard Sean Bairstow (9.7 ppg) are all shooting better than 50 percent from the floor. Bean is shooting 56.3 percent (184-of-327) from the floor and 50.0 percent (36-of-72) from behind the arc, Horvath is shooting 51.6 percent (133-of-258) and Bairstow is shooting 51.1 percent (69-of-135).
• Horvath has recorded 102 points during the month of February, the fifth-most of any player in the country in games played through Saturday, Feb. 12. Horvath has scored 20 or more in each of the last two games and has scored in double figures in each of the last seven. Horvath is one of only four players in the MW shooting better than 50 percent in league play.
• Bean recorded his 42nd career double-double against Wyoming, finishing with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Bean needs three more double-doubles to move into second place all-time in both USU and MW history.
• Utah State is fourth in the nation in total assists (471), sixth in assists per game (18.1), 16th in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.45) and 20th in field goal percentage (.483).
• Bean is among the nation's leaders in multiple statistics, ranking fifth in double-doubles (16), ninth in total rebounds (258), 12th in total field goals made (184), 14th in defensive rebounds per game (7.38), and 15th in total minutes (926:58) and rebounds per game (9.9).
• Utah State head coach Ryan Odom is just the second coach in USU history to capture a victory against the Aztecs when facing San Diego State for the first time. (Ladell Anderson, 1962-63).
Utah State-San Diego State Series Trends
• Utah State and San Diego State will meet for just the 24th time, by far the shortest series for the Aggies against any MW opponent.
• The Aggies and Aztecs met only three times before facing each other in the MW as Utah State posted victories in each contest, a 101-57 win in 1962-63, a 64-61 win on Dec. 6, 1997, and a 63-60 win in San Diego on Nov. 24, 1998.
• San Diego State and Utah State are first and second in the MW in steals per game, averaging 8.0 and 6.54 per game, respectively.
• Sophomore guard Steven Ashworth converted a career-high eight free throws against the Aztecs on Jan. 16, 2021.
