LOGAN, Utah – Utah State's 21st-ranked gymnastics team continues its season on the road when the Aggies travel to the Gem State for a top-25 Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference showdown against No. 24 Boise State on Friday, Feb. 18, at ExtraMile Arena in Boise, Idaho.
The dual meet featuring the Aggies (7-4, 3-2 MRGC) and Broncos (1-2, 1-2) is slated to begin at 7 p.m., and streamed live at
broncosports.com. Live scoring will be available online at
statbroadcast.com. Aggie fans can also follow the Utah State gymnastics social media outlets for meet updates.
Utah State leads the all-time series with Boise State 56-52-1, including a 17-19-1 mark in Boise. The Broncos have won three straight against the Aggies, who have not recorded a road victory against BSU since March 23, 2007, a span of 14 meets.
The Aggies tied the second-highest score in school history with a season-high 196.800 last Friday night against Southern Utah at the America First Event Center in Cedar City. The Thunderbirds won the MRGC dual meet with a 196.975. The 196.800 turned in by the Aggies is also tied for the second-best road score in school history. Furthermore, it marked the first time in 39 road meets against SUU that Utah State had ever eclipsed the 196-plateau.
Rebecca Wells won the all-around for the third time this season with a career-high 39.300. The junior also tied for first on vault with a personal-best 9.900, which is tied for eighth all-time in school history. Senior
Carley Bayles won her second beam title of the season with a 9.900, while
Brie Clark tied for first on floor with a 9.925. The freshman from Daphne, Alabama, now has five floor titles on the year, which is tied for 10th in single-season school history on the event.
The Aggies opened the meet with a season-low-tying 48.850 on bars, but caught fire afterward, beginning with vault. Utah State recorded a season-high 49.250 on the event, which ranks third all-time in school history. In the third rotation, USU notched a season-high 49.375 on floor, which is tied for seventh all-time in program history. The Aggies closed the meet on beam, their best event. Led by Bayles, all six gymnasts went 9.800 or better as Utah State recorded a 49.325.
Utah State boasts one of the best beam lineups in the nation as the Aggies rank 12th nationally on the event with a 49.167 average. USU is also No. 20 on bars (48.996) and No. 25 on floor (49.067).
Boise State ranks 24th nationally on vault (48.992 average) and 23rd on beam (48.975). Individually, two Broncos rank in the top-10 nationally on bars. Emily Muhlenhaupt is tied for fourth with an average of 9.925, having scored 9.900 or better in every meet. Emily Lopez comes in at No. 8 with an average of 9.917.
