LOGAN, Utah — Utah State men's tennis lost to Drake, 4-3, on Saturday at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club.

In doubles play, senior Felipe Acosta and freshman Sergi Mico Fenollar gave USU an early advantage with a 6-4 win on court three. The remaining Aggie duos each lost, 6-4, to hand the Bulldogs the doubles point. For junior Javier Ruiz and sophomore Jack Ninteman, it was their first loss in doubles play for the dual match season.

Drake's momentum continued into singles play, putting the Aggies into an 0-2 hole following Matija Matic's 6-2, 6-3 victory over Acosta. The tide started turning to USU's favor following a first-set tiebreak victory by junior David Cierny. After taking the narrow advantage, Cierny closed out Jeremy Schifris, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, to put the Aggies on the board.

Junior Bodin Zarkovic tied the match on court two, rebounding from a dropped first set to win, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, over Oliver Johannson. Mico Fenollar matched the third-set comeback victory, defeating Reid Jarvis, 6-7 (3-7), 6-1, 6-4, to give USU the 3-2 advantage.

Drake evened the match at 3-3 at the fifth position where Evan Fragistas defeated junior Roko Savin, 6-3, 3-6. 6-3, leaving the fate of the match to the sixth position. Senior Maksymilian Raupuk controlled the first set but could not emerge victorious in a second-set tiebreak. Despite a valiant comeback effort after falling down 0-4 in the third set, Raupuk ultimately lost to Markus Bolin, 0-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 to give the Aggies their second straight 4-3 loss.

The Aggies will finish their three-game home stand on Monday, February 21, at noon (MT) when they host Montana State.
