LOGAN, Utah — Utah State men's tennis lost, 4-1, to Nevada on Sunday at the Sports Academy Racquet Club.
The Aggies started well in doubles play as juniors David Cierny and Bodin Zarkovic won, 6-3, at the first position. Losses at the second and third spots, however, delivered the opening point of the match to the Wolf Pack.
Utah State again started strong in singles play, winning the first set in four of the six matches. Freshman Sergi Mico Fenollar notched the only straight-set victory of the day for either side, winning, 6-0, 7-6 (4), at the third position to square the match at one apiece.
Third-set losses at the first, fourth and fifth positions were enough to secure the victory for Nevada. At the time of clinch, Cierny held a 7-6 (0), 4-6, 4-2 advantage at the No. 2-spot while junior Javier Ruiz was tied in the third set with the match score at 7-6 (4), 6-7 (4), 1-1.
The Aggies now have a week to prepare for their next match at San Diego State on Sunday, April 10, at 1 p.m. (MT).
