LOGAN, Utah – Utah State softball (25-23, 10-7 Mountain West) lost 10-2 to Boise State (33-10, 12-5 MW) at LaRee & LeGrand Johnson Field on Saturday.
The Broncos scored one run in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead.
The Aggies tied it up at 1-apiece in the bottom of the third after a lead-off homer from senior catcher
Gabriella Jimenez. The home run marked the 12th of the season for Jimenez as she is now just one bomb away from tying the program single-season record of 13.
Boise State had a big outing in the top of the fourth as the Broncos brought home nine runs to hold a 10-1 advantage.
Jimenez scored the final run of the day after drawing a walk in the bottom of the fifth, advancing the next two bases on the next two at-bats before scoring on an RBI ground out from freshman designated player
Taryn Edds. That would be it for USU as the Broncos won 10-2.
Senior
Kapri Toone made the start in the circle for the Aggies, recording one strikeout and one walk in her 3.2 innings pitched. Junior
Nya Laing relieved Toone in the top of the fourth to get the final out of the frame, while sophomore
Jessica Stewart came in to pitch the final inning of the day.
Utah State and Boise State will play the final game of the series on Sunday, May 1, at 11 a.m.
