FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas — Utah State track & field continued competition at the NCAA West Preliminary Championships as a trio of Aggie men competed on Wednesday at John McDonnell Field.
USU's performance of the day came courtesy of senior Mica Rivera in the 10,000 meters. Making her career debut at the Preliminary Championships, the native of Herriman, Utah, placed 14th overall with a time of 34:09.64, Rivera improved on her personal record by over 13 seconds and remains ranked second all-time in the event at Utah State.
Senior Maia Garren started the day off for the Aggies by competing in the shot put. In her third time competing in the event at the West Prelims, Garren finished 25th with a mark of 15.80 meters (51-10).
Also making her debut at the West Prelims, sophomore Olivia Smith placed 40th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.31.
The West Prelims will continue on Friday as senior Mark Crandall and freshman Max Wehrli will represent Utah State in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase at 4:40 p.m. (MT).
