LOGAN, Utah – Utah State graduate quarterback Logan Bonner has been named to the 2022 Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award Preseason Watch List, the foundation announced Tuesday.

The Davey O'Brien Award is presented annually to the nation's best college quarterback. It is the oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award. Bonner is one of two Mountain West players, along with Fresno State's Jake Haener. named to the 35-player list.

Bonner is also one of three players from the Beehive State on the list, joining BYU's Jaren Hall and Utah's Cameron Rising. Bonner and Hall will meet head-to-head when the Aggies pay a visit to the Cougars on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 6 p.m.

During the 2021 campaign, Bonner set five single-season school records with 3,628 yards passing, 36 touchdown passes, four touchdown passes in three-straight games, four touchdown passes in six games in a season and 2.57 touchdown passes per game.

On the season, Bonner was 263-of-429 (.613) passing to rank fourth in school history in completions, sixth in attempts and seventh in completion percentage. He also had 3,694 yards of total offense to rank as the second-most in school history.

Bonner's 36 touchdown passes a year ago are tied for the fourth-most in a single season in Mountain West history and the seventh-most in school history for a career. Five of those TD passes came in the Aggies' 35-10 win at New Mexico, tying the single-game school record.

In helping lead Utah State to its first-ever Mountain West title with a dominating 46-13 victory at No. 19 San Diego State, Bonner set championship game records for most passing touchdowns (4) and most touchdowns responsible for (4).

Bonner was named the offensive MVP of the MW championship game after completing 29-of-42 passes for 318 yards and those four TDs, setting season highs in both completions and attempts.

The 6-foot-1, 230-pound native of Rowlett, Texas, is also on the Maxwell Award Watch List and is a preseason second-team all-Mountain West selection by both Athlon Sports and Phil Steele.

The official Davey O'Brien Midseason Watch List will be released on Tuesday, Oct. 18, and will contain all active quarterbacks from the Preseason Watch List, all players honored as a weekly Great 8 recipient through the season's first seven weeks and any additional quarterbacks approved by the selection subcommittee.

The Midseason Watch List will then be pared down to the 35-player Davey O'Brien QB Class of 2022 on Tuesday, Oct. 25. Fan voting on social media (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) will again play a role in the semifinalist, finalist and winner voting totals when combined with the national selection committee's ballots. Voting will begin on Oct. 25.

Sixteen semifinalists selected from the QB Class will be named on Tuesday, Nov. 8. The Foundation will announce the three finalists two weeks later (Monday, Nov. 21). The 2022 Davey O'Brien Award winner will be unveiled live on ESPN on Thursday, Dec. 8, during The Home Depot College Football Awards.

The 46th-annual Davey O'Brien Awards Dinner honoring the winner will be held on Monday, Feb. 20, 2023, at The Fort Worth Club in Fort Worth, Texas.

Utah State opens the 2022 season at home against Connecticut on Saturday, Aug. 27. The game will be televised nationally on Fox Sports 1, at 2 p.m.
