LOGAN, Utah – Utah State running back Robert Briggs has been named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Briggs set a school record for rushing yards by a true freshman in their first-ever game as he had 85 yards on 10 carries, including a 23-yard touchdown run, in the Aggies' 31-20 season-opening victory over Connecticut last Saturday afternoon on Merlin Olsen Field at Maverik Stadium.

The previous record was set by quarterback Kent Myers, who rushed for 28 yards on three carries against UNLV in 2014, while making his Aggie debut as a true freshman.

Briggs and the Aggies rallied from 14 down in the first quarter to beat the Huskies. His 23-yard touchdown run in the second quarter tied the game at 14-all with 3:42 left in the half.

Utah State (1-0) plays at No. 1 Alabama (0-0) on Saturday, Sept. 3, at 5:30 p.m. (MT), in a game that will be televised on the SEC Network (Xfinity Ch. 268, DirecTV Ch. 611, DISH Ch. 404).
