Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |
LOGAN, Utah – Utah State volleyball's 14-home match winning streak came to an end on Saturday as USU (9-4, 1-1 Mountain West) lost 3-0 to New Mexico (10-2, 1-1 MW) inside the Wayne Estes Center.

Two Aggies finished the match with double-digit kills as senior middle blocker Kennedi Boyd and junior outside hitter Tatum Stall each had 10. Both USU setters had double-figure assists as sophomore Beatriz Rodrigues had 19 and freshman Leah Wilton-LaBoy had 18.

Defensively, senior outside hitter Shelby Capllonch had 15 digs, while redshirt sophomore libero Jordi Holdaway had 14. Boyd led the Aggies with five blocks.

A 5-0 Aggie run fueled by a Capllonch block and kills from Capllonch, Rodrigues and redshirt freshman opposite side hitter Kaylie Ray gave Utah State the 13-7 lead in set one. Back-to-back Ray and Capllonch kills later gave USU a six-point advantage, but a 7-1 New Mexico run tied the score at 23-apiece. Utah State earned set point twice, but the Lobos closed out the set with a 3-0 spurt to win 27-25.

A kill from graduate opposite side hitter Emilee Turner gave USU the 10-7 edge in set two. After the Aggies took a 13-10 lead, the Lobos responded with an 8-1 run to hold an 18-14 advantage. Utah State trimmed the margin to 19-18, but New Mexico closed out the set with a 6-2 run for the 25-20 win.

Utah State led 9-5 in set three after a Boyd and Turner block. The Aggies maintained the lead until the Lobos tied it up at 17-apiece. A kill from redshirt freshman middle blocker Bella Wooden gave USU set point at 24-22, but a New Mexico kill and block evened the score. The teams went back and forth until the Lobos pulled away with the 32-30 set victory and match sweep.

Overall, USU hit .152 (47-27-132), while UNM hit .210 (41-16-119).

Utah State is on the road next week as the Aggies take on Nevada (7-5, 1-0 MW) in Reno, Nevada, on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m. (MT).
