SAN JOSÉ, California - Utah State women's basketball lost at San José State, 77-59, on Saturday at the Providence Credit Union Event Center..
The Spartans came out shooting hot, going 4-for-6 from 3-point range in the first quarter on the way to building a 10-point lead entering the second frame. The Aggies initially kept pace via a 5-for-9 start to the game from behind the arc before SJSU built a cushion with a 10-0 run midway through the second quarter. San José State entered halftime with a 38-25 lead.
USU could not stem the momentum in the third quarter as the Spartans' lead ballooned to 30 points off a 25-8 start to the second half. The Aggies never relented, responding with a 22-3 run to trim the deficit to 11 points with three minutes to play. Utah State came no closer, however, as the Spartans clinched the victory in the final minutes.
Freshman guard
Natalie Fraley led the Aggies with a career-high 18 points alongside three rebounds and three steals plus one steal and block. Fraley went a perfect 5-for-5 from 3-point territory, becoming the first Aggie in program history to connect on five triples without a miss in a single game. As a team, Utah State shot 11-for-29 from 3-point territory for the game.
Junior guard
Tamiah Robinson also reached double figures with 11 points, adding four assists and three rebounds. Graduate guard
Maria Carvalho led USU with five assists, chipping in with nine points. Utah State set a new season-high with 16 assists as a team.
