PORTLAND, Oregon — Utah State men's tennis lost to Portland, 6-1, on Sunday at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center.

The Aggies fell early by a tiebreaker match in doubles play. Seniors Javier Ruiz and Roko Savin earned a victory on court three before losses on courts one and two put the Aggies into a 1-0 deficit entering singles play.  

USU sought their first point in the first three matches of singles play. Junior Stijn Paardekooper won the first set of his match at the third position before losses in the second and third sets. Senior David Cierny lost in a second-set tiebreak to fall short of his bid to force a third set as the Pilots clinched the match in the first wave of singles matches.

Senior Roko Savin gave the Aggies their lone point of the day with a victory at the fifth position, coming back from a first-set loss to win, 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8).  

Utah State is set to return to the Sports Academy & Racquet Club in Logan, Utah, for their home opener game against Eastern Washington on Friday, Feb. 3, at 11 a.m. (MT).
