LOGAN, Utah — Utah State men's tennis senior David Cierny has entered the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) DI Men's National Singles rankings on Tuesday.
Cierny tied for the highest ranking by an Aggie at the No. 111 spot. This was done in the seventh week of the dual match season which is the fastest in program history.
It is USU's first inclusion in an ITA Singles rankings since Isaac Arevalo Gómez also was ranked 111th in the nation during the 2019 season.
Cierny is 4-3 on the season with all his wins coming from the first position. The most impressive win being a straight-sets win against Utah's Geronimo Busleiman who was ranked 58th in the latest ITA rankings
The Slovakian is the only Mountain West Conference player in the singles rankings.
Cierny will have the opportunity to climb in the ranks as Utah State will play at the Arizona State Invite beginning Friday, Feb. 24 through Sunday, Feb. 26, in Tempe Arizona. The eight-team tournament will feature Arizona State, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Nevada, UNLV, Loyola Marymound and Idaho in addition to the Aggies.
