PHOENIX, Ariz. – Utah State softball (4-8, 0-0 Mountain West) lost 4-2 to South Dakota (5-5) and 5-0 to Grand Canyon (10-1) at the GCU Tournament on Friday.
 
South Dakota led 4-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning in the first game of the day.
 
Freshman right fielder 
Hailey McLean logged her first career home run with a solo bomb in the bottom of the frame. Two at-bats later, sophomore second baseman 
Claudia Medina had a solo home run of her own, the first of the season and second of her career.
 
That would be it, however, as the Coyotes won 4-2.
 
Both sophomore 
Mia Reynolds and senior 
Alyssa Millemon saw time in the circle. Reynolds mad the start for the Aggies, striking out three batters in 3.2 innings of work. Millemon pitched for 3.1 innings, giving up no runs and just one hit during her time in the circle.
 
In USU's second game of the day, Grand Canyon scored three runs in the bottom of the first and two more in the bottom of the third to lead 5-0. Five Aggies logged a hit, but only one player would get into scoring position in the game.
 
Freshman 
Tess Bumiller started for the Aggies, recording three strikeouts in 2.2 innings of work. She was relieved by McLean, who started the game in right field, who pitched for 3.1 innings, striking out four batters while giving up no runs and just one hit.

USU next faces Montana (0-11) on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m., before a rematch against South Dakota at 1:30 p.m.
