ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico - Utah State women's basketball lost, 111-55, to New Mexico on Saturday at the Pit.
The Lobos took control via a 13-0 run midway through the first quarter. A pair of 3-pointers from graduate seniors
Maria Carvalho and
Mayson Kimball was unable to stem the tide as another 13-2 run from New Mexico in the second quarter helped the Lobos carry a 49-22 lead into halftime. The Aggies were unable to form a comeback following the intermission.
Carvalho led USU with 20 points and nine rebounds, also leading the team with two assists. Kimball also reached double figures with 11 points while shooting 2-for-4 from 3-point territory. Senior
Ashya Klopfenstein added seven points and a team-high two blocks and junior
Kinley Falslev-Wickizer chipped in eight points off the bench. The Aggies shot 30.8 percent (20-for-65) from the floor and 23.3 percent (7-for-30) from 3-point range.
