Utah State Women's Basketball Falls to San Jose State 78-65 on Senior Day
LOGAN, Utah - Utah State women's basketball lost, 78-65, to San Jose State on Tuesday evening inside the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum, in both teams' final regular season game of the 2022-23 season
San Jose State (5-24, 3-15 MW) got off to a hot start, leading 17-5 with freshman guard Sabrina Ma scoring nine of those 17 points. Utah State started to chip away at the lead, cutting the deficit to seven on a three near the first quarter buzzer from freshman guard Natalie Fraley.
The Spartans once again pushed the lead back to double digits, leading by as much as 12, until Aggie graduate guard Maria Carvalho scored off an offensive rebound to pull the Aggies within nine heading into the locker room.
USU trailed 40-29 early in the third quarter, before going on an 11-0 run to tie the ball game at 40, capped by a corner three by junior guard Kinley Falslev-Wickizer with 5:52 left in the third frame. SJSU retained a 52-50 lead heading into the final frame.
Junior guard Olivia Wikstrom led off the fourth quarter with a bucket to tie the game at 52 before the Spartans went on a 17-3 run to pull away and exit Logan with the win.
Utah State was led by Carvalho and junior guard Tamiah Robinson who each scored 14 points, while Wikstrom finished with 12 points and six rebounds. Fraley also pulled down six boards. USU shot 38.3 percent (23-of-60) from the field, 33.3 percent (11-of-33) from three-point range, and 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from the free throw line. SJSU was led by Ma's 24 points and sophomore forward Marisa Davis-Jones who scored 21 points. The Spartans shot 43.5 percent (27-of-62) from the field, 31.6 percent (6-of-19) from the arc and 81.8 percent (18-of-22) at the charity stripe

Utah State (4-25, 1-17 MW) will head to Las Vegas, Nevada to participate in the 2022-23 Mountain West Tournament. The Aggies, seeded 11th, will take on the sixth seeded Boise State Broncos (16-15, 11-7 MW) on Sunday March 5, at 8 p.m. MT.
