LOGAN, Utah — Utah State men's tennis defeated Idaho State, 5-2, at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club on Wednesday to stay undefeated at home this season.
The Aggies began the day by securing the doubles point via wins at the second and third positions. At the No. 3 doubles position, seniors Roko Savin and Jack Ninteman posted a 6-4 win seconds before freshman Nuno Pinheiro and junior Stijn Paardekooper took the victory on court two and earned the doubles point with a tiebreak 7-6 (1) win.
During singles play, USU earned points in straight set wins at the first, second, fourth, and sixth positions.
On court one, senior David Cierny defeated his Bengal opponents in a 6-4, 6-2 victory.
At the second position, senior Bodin Zarkovic swiftly won his first set, 6-1, and took the point in a 7-6 tiebreaker.
Savin clinched the match for the Aggies by winning a 7-6 tiebreaker first set and then posting a 6-3 second set to seal the deal.
At the No. 6 position, senior Javier Ruiz advanced the Aggie's win to 5-2 when he posted a 7-5, 6-3 straight-sets win over his Bengals opponent.
Utah State men's tennis returns home to the Sports Academy & Racquet Club to take on Weber State Sunday, March 26, at 12 pm (MT).
