RIVERSIDE, California — Utah State men's tennis defeated UC Riverside in a 6-1 win at the SRC Tennis Courts on Wednesday.  

USU began the day by taking the doubles point via wins at courts one and two. Seniors David Cierny and Bodin Zarkovic defeated their opponents, posting a 6-3 win on court one. Junior Stijn Paardekooper and freshman Nuno Pinheiro matched the court one win with a 6-2 win on court two, securing the doubles points for the Aggies. Seniors Jack Ninteman and Roko Savin had their match left unfinished with a 3-4 score.  

Momentum carried onto singles matches as Cierny, Zarkovic, Paardekooper, and Savin won in consecutive sets at the top four positions.  

Cierny posted a 6-2, 6-2 win at the top spot while Zarkovic won 7-6, 6-3 at the second position, Paardekooper had his biggest win of the year in a 6-1, 6-2 win at the third spot and Savin took a 6-1, 6-4 win to bring USU to a 5-0 lead. 

On court five, Pinheiro fought back from a 6-4 loss in the first set to score 6-2, 6-2 in the second and third sets to improve Utah State to 6-0 against the Highlanders. 

After the Aggies scored their sixth point, Ruiz was defeated on court six for UC Riverside's lone point of the day. 

Utah State continues the road trip in California with a match tomorrow Thursday, March 9, at 2 pm (MT) against UC Santa Barbara before heading to UC Irvine for a match on Saturday, March 11 at 3 pm (MT) to complete the three-meet week.
