LOGAN, Utah – Utah State men's tennis (9-11, 2-2 MW) returns to the Sports Academy and Racquet Club for the last time this season as they honor four seniors and host No. 73 New Mexico on Sunday, April 16, at noon.
Prior to the match start, Utah State will honor four seniors in David Cierny, Roko Savin, Javier Ruiz and Jack Ninteman.
Utah State posted a 2-0 Mountain West home record last weekend with a 4-1 win against Air Force and a 4-1 win against San Diego State.
Against the Falcons, USU won the doubles point as junior Stijn Paardekooper and freshman Nuno Pinheiro posted a 6-3 win at the second position, while Ruiz and Ninteman secured a 7-5 win at the third position. In singles play, Cierny won in straight sets at the No. 1 spot (6-3, 6-4). Senior Bodin Zarkovic won in three sets at the No. 2 spot (6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-4), and Savin won in straight sets at the No. 4 spot (7-6 (5), 7-5).
Against the Aztecs, USU again won the doubles point as Cierny and Zarkovic posted a 7-6 (4) win at the first position, while Paardekooper and Pinheiro notched a 6-3 win at the second position. In singles play, Cierny won in straight sets at the No. 1 spot (6-3, 6-2). Zarkovic won in straight sets at the No. 2 spot (6-3, 6-3), and Savin won in straight sets at the No. 4 spot (6-2, 6-3).
New Mexico travels to Logan with a 12-5 season record and a 3-0 MW conference record, coming off a 4-3 win against No. 61 Boise State.
This will be the 11th meeting all-time between the Aggies and Lobos as New Mexico leads the series 6-5.
