BOISE, Idaho— Utah State men's tennis upset No. 67 Boise State in the final match of the regular season on Saturday afternoon.
Utah State earned their first point of the day during doubles play. Junior Stijn Paardekooper and freshman Nuno Pinheiro took court two's match in a 6-4 win, and at the No. 3 spot, seniors Javier Ruiz and junior Jack Ninteman capped out their own 6-4 win to secure the doubles point.
In singles play, the Aggies clinched the match via wins on courts two, five, and six.
On court five, sophomore Sergi Micó Fenollar started singles by posting a 6-4, 6-1 straight-set win to earn the second point for the Aggies.
Pinheiro recorded a 6-4, 6-2 straight-set win at the sixth position to tie the match 3-3 and leave senior Bodin Zarkovic to finish off the match.
After an up and down first two sets, Zarkovic fought till the last point of the third set to defeat his Bronco opponent 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 and clinch the final match of the regular season.
The Utah State men's tennis team (10-12, 3-3 MW) will travel to Las Vegas, Nevada to play in the Mountain West Conference Championship starting on Wednesday, April 26 through Saturday, April 29.
