LOGAN, Utah - Utah State head men's basketball coach Danny Sprinkle announced the signing of Nigel Burris to the 2023-24 roster.
Burris, a 6-foot-7 forward, joins the Aggie squad after spending his freshman year at Idaho. He was named the Big Sky Freshman of the Year after playing in all 32 games, including 25 starts, averaging 8.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Burris finished the season shooting 52.7 percent (98-of-186) from the field, 44.8 percent (39-of-87) from behind the arc and 87.0 percent (47-of-54) at the free throw line.
The native of San Francisco, California, scored in double figures 15 times during his freshman campaign, including a career-high 21 points and seven rebounds on 7-of-10 shooting in the first round of the 2022-23 Big Sky Tournament against runner-up Northern Arizona. He also recorded a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds at Montana State.
Burris prepped at Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, California, where he played two seasons, helping guide the program to two WCAL league championships and two Central Coast Section championships, combining for a 40-6 record. He was ranked a three-star power forward by 247 Sports and was selected to the 2021 Northern California all-metro team. Burris played for Team WhyNot in AAU and also received an invite to Nike Peach Jam.
