LOGAN, Utah — Utah State head women's basketball coach
Kayla Ard announced the signing of three additional players on Monday.
Allyzee Verdan joins USU after spending the past three seasons at Salt Lake Community College, where she played in a total of 80 games. In her last season with the Bruins, Verdan averaged 19.1 minutes, 8.7 points and 5.9 rebounds per game, registering a career-high 22 points against Colorado Northwestern CC. Verdan earned honorable mention all-conference honors following the 2022-23 season.
"Ally is a great addition to our team," Ard said. "She has played three successful seasons at SLCC against very good competition, which will help her transition to Utah State and the Mountain West. She is an incredibly athletic post player with a great defensive and rebounding presence. Aggie nation will love the energy she brings to the court."
Verdan, a native of French Guiana, played her high school career at Bloomington Christian High School.
"I am honored to be part of the Aggies and ready to achieve great things," Verdan said.
Taylia Stimpson comes to Logan after spending the past two seasons at Utah Tech, appearing in a total of 45 games. Last season, Stimpson averaged 6.1 points and 2.1 rebounds per game across 18 contests, registering a career-high 20 points against California Baptist, and shot 49 percent from the field in 15.8 minutes per game. Prior to her stop at Utah Tech, Stimpson played one season at Georgetown. Stimpson began her career at the College of Southern Idaho, where she averaged 11 points and five rebounds per game, and earned first-team all-conference honors.
"We are very happy to welcome Tay to the squad," Ard said. "She comes from a basketball family and has a great feel for the game. She is going to be our lone senior on the roster and is coming to us with a lot of experience. She has great size at the guard position and can score the ball from the 3-point line or off the bounce. Tay plays with a lot of heart on both sides of the ball and we are excited to have her."
Stimpson, a native of Paul, Idaho, was a three-year starter at Minico High School in Idaho, serving as team captain her senior season. She was named The Times-News Big School Girls Basketball Player of the Year, as well as the 2019 Magic Valley Player of the Year. Stimpson averaged 16 points per game, six rebounds and five steals per game, and helped her team to four-consecutive state tournament appearances.
"I am so thankful for the opportunity coach Ard is giving me to continue my athletic and academic journey," Stimpson said. "I am so excited to officially be an Aggie."
Macy Smith joins the Aggies after playing the last two years at CSUN, appearing in 53 games. In 2022-23, Smith appeared in all 31 contests and averaged 4.3 points and 1.7 rebounds in 17.8 minutes per game while shooting 31.1 percent from the field and 88.9 percent from the free throw line. As a freshman in 2021-22, Smith appeared in 22 contests and averaged 3.8 points and 1.0 rebounds per game and scored a career-high 20 points at Hawai'i in the regular season finale.
"The staff and I are thrilled to complete our roster with the addition of Macy," Ard said. "She comes from a wonderful family and fits here on and off the court. She is a talented guard with great size that can score the ball in multiple ways. I'm looking forward to having her in an Aggie jersey this upcoming season."
Smith, a native of Blaine, Minnesota, played her high school career at Spring Lake Park (Minnesota) High School, where she led the Panthers to three state tournament appearances and two conference titles. Smith was a three-time all-conference selection and named honorable mention all-conference as a freshman. She scored over 1,000 points in her prep career and finished with a 16.3 points-per-game average.
"As soon as I stepped foot on campus, I felt at home," Smith said. "I could tell right away that Logan is a great place with even greater people. I made amazing connections with the coaches and loved their values and visions for the program. I am so grateful for this opportunity and am proud to be an Aggie."
