LOGAN, Utah – Utah State sophomore running back Robert Briggs Jr. has been named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List, it was announced Thursday by the organization.
 
Now in its 11th year, the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award is presented to the top offensive player in Division I football who meets the following criteria: 1) Born in Texas; 2) Graduated from a Texas high school; 3) Played at a Texas-based junior college or four-year Division I college in Texas.
 
Briggs played in each of the first 10 games of the 2022 season before missing the final three due to injury. He rushed for 353 yards and one touchdown on 74 carries, while catching seven passes for 31 yards.
 
The native of Bellville, Texas, also returned one kickoff for nine yards and was named the Mountain West Freshman of the Week following his performance against Connecticut in the season opener as he set the school record for rushing yards by a true freshman in their first-ever game, as he gained 85 yards on 10 carries, including a 23-yard touchdown.
 
Briggs is also a preseason third-team all-Mountain West selection by Athlon Sports.
 
Utah State opens the 2023 season at Iowa on Saturday, Sept. 2, while its home opener is the following weekend against Idaho State on Saturday, Sept. 9. USU begins Mountain West play at Air Force on Saturday, Sept. 16.
