LOGAN, Utah – For the second time in the last three years, Utah State's golf team will be playing on familiar soil.
The Aggies welcome an in-state rival to the Logan Country Club on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 2-3, for the Utah State-Weber State Cup. The Ryder Cup-style event will feature 36 holes of competition on the first day and 18 more on the second.
"The team is really excited to get the season rolling," senior
John Cook said. "We have all been having some great summers on and off the course, and we're ready to get our revenge on Weber State."
Play will begin Saturday at 9:30 a.m., with 18 holes of alternate shot, followed by 18 holes of best ball. The event will conclude Sunday with 18 holes of individual match play, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
This is the third year in a row the Aggies and Wildcats will be squaring off. Weber State defeated Utah State 12.5-3.5 in 2021 in Logan. The two teams met last year at the Ogden Golf & Country Club with the Wildcats posting a 11.5-4.5 victory.
"They have taken it to us the last couple of years, but our squad is looking to bounce back and defend our home turf," Cook said. "We're looking forward to seeing familiar faces come out to support us."
The six Aggies competing this weekend include seniors
John Cook and
Josh Pehrson, juniors
Julio Arronte Sanchez,
Luis Gerardo Cantu,
Esteban Jaramillo, and freshman
Ashton McArthur.
