COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Utah State men's tennis earned five singles wins on the first day of the Air Force-hosted Bedford Cup in the Mountains.
 
After dropping his first set in singles in the lightning flight, fifth-year senior Bodin Zarkovic bounced back to defeat UNLV senior Anton Ornberg 4-6, 6-0, 7-5. Zarkovic went on to defeat Air Force sophomore Phillip Deaton in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
 
Stijn Paardekooper won both of his Friday singles matches in the raptor flight. The senior started things off with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 victory against Boise State graduate senior Jan Lucca Marquardt before defeating Weber State's William Zuch 6-2, 6-1.
 
Junior Sergi Micó Fenollar competed in the lightning flight, losing a 7-5, 7-6 (4) battle to Weber State's Tristan Sarap in the first round. He then defeated Air Force junior Arjun Kersten 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
 
In doubles, Micó Fenollar and Zarkovic had a first-round bye before losing 6-1 to Denver junior Rikuto Yamaguchi and senior Charlie Miller.
 
The Aggies continue their run at the Bedford Cup on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 9 a.m.
