Box Score TUCSON, Arizona — Utah State soccer (2-4-1, 0-0 MW) fell to Arizona State Thursday evening, suffering a 1-0 loss at Arizona's Mulcahy Soccer Stadium. This was the first match of the Arizona Classic for USU, who will now face Arizona on Sunday.
Despite eight quick shots by the Sun Devils in the first 15 minutes of action, the Aggies were able to keep the Arizona State attack at bay through much of the first half before a 36th minute goal by ASU's Florence Vaillancourt broke the scoreless tie.
Despite the deficit, the Aggies continued to create quality shots in the second half but were unable to find the back of the net. In the contest, each side finished with four shots on goal. Sophomore midfielder
Kaylie Chambers led the team's attack with three shots, two of which were on target.
The USU defense held strong in the second half, allowing just three ASU shots in the final 45 minutes while the Aggies fired off five of their own. Utah State didn't allow the Sun Devils a single corner kick in the contest.
Five Aggies played all 90 minutes in the match, including graduate keeper
Diera Walton who played the full game in goal for the Aggies. She finished the match with three saves on four shots faced.
