LOGAN, Utah — Behind a title-winning meet at New Mexico, Utah State track & field freshman Landon Bott has been named the Mountain West Men's Track Athlete and Men's Freshman of the Week.
Bott, a native of North Salt Lake, Utah, won the men's 800 meters at the New Mexico Team Open with a time of 1:49.05 (1:48.44, altitude converted). His personal-record time ranks as the third-best time in the event in school history.
Bott leads the Mountain West in the 800m this season as his posted time is more than half a second quicker than the second-place athlete. His time in the event is the 30th-best in the nation and the sixth-best time by a freshman this season.
Bott improved his former USU top-10 time of 1:51.18 in the 800m set in another title-winning performance at the Snake River Open earlier this season.
The Aggies host the Utah State Speed and Power Meet on Saturday, Feb. 3, inside the George Nelson Fieldhouse.
