Stijn Paardekooper clinched a professional doubles title at the M15 Castellon in Spain last weekend. The doubles competition took place at the La Plana Sport Castellón from Oct. 15 through Oct. 18.
Paardekooper was a member of the Aggies' squad for his junior and senior seasons from 2022-24. He compiled 30 singles wins and 32 doubles wins as an Aggie. During his senior campaign, he was named to the All-Mountain West Singles Team, Mountain West All-Tournament Singles Team and All-Mountain West Doubles Team.
A native of the Netherlands, Paardekooper played alongside Younes Lalami Laaroussi, a Moroccan player. The pairing entered the competition ranked as a two-seed.
In the opening round, Paardekooper and Laaroussi posted a straight set win over Spain's Carles Rojas and Iker Urribarrens Ramierez (6-3, 6-2). In the quarterfinals of the tournament, they rallied back to win the match in three sets against Spain's Sergi Fita Juan and Turkery's Toprak Avcibasi (3-6, 6-1, 10-3).
In the semi-finals, Paardekooper and Laarousi posted a straight-set win (6-3, 6-3) over Spain's Luis Garcia Paez and Nico Rating.
In the finals, the pairing faced four-seeded Alejandro Melero Kretzer and Albert Pedrico Kravtsov from Spain. Paardekooper and Laaroussi won in a back-and -forth match in straight sets, with both sets being decided by tie-breaks (7-6(6), 7-6(3)).
