LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Utah State soccer (15-1-3, 6-1-2 MW) used an early goal and suffocating defense to pick up its third-straight shutout victory, earning three points in a 1-0 win at UNLV Thursday evening at Peter Johann Memorial Field in Las Vegas.
The one and only goal of the match came in the 22nd minute when a cross followed by a series of well-placed passes set up USU sophomore midfielder
Summer Diamond at the top center of the 18-yard box. Diamond then dialed in to send a right-footer into the bottom left corner of the net beyond the diving reach of the UNLV keeper.
While Utah State totaled 18 shots in the match, the Aggie defense limited the Rebels to just two shots, neither of which were on frame. USU created consistent looks throughout, including 11 shots in the first half and seven in the second, but one goal was all it took to earn the win.
