Tanner Cragun Named America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week

LOGAN, Utah — Utah State football player Tanner Cragun has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, Oct. 27. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
 
With their sponsorship of the Student-Athlete of the Week, America First Credit Union donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships.
 
Cragun, a redshirt freshman placekicker from Frisco, Texas, tied his career high with nine points and made a career-long 40-yard field goal on the final play of the game to give Utah State its first Mountain West win of the season with a 27-25 victory at Wyoming, snapping a six-game losing streak. In all, Cragun made a career-high two field goals (40, 30) and tied his career high with two attempts, also converting all three of his extra points. It was USU's first walk-off field goal for the Aggies since 2019. Cragun was also named the Mountain West Special Teams Player and Freshman of the Week.
 
For the season, Cragun has hit 4-of-5 field goals, including a perfect 3-for-3 from within 40 yards. Cragun has also gone a perfect 16-for-16 on PATs this season.
 
Fall Schedule
Utah State heads into a bye week before returning to play at Washington State on Saturday, Nov. 9. Kickoff time is to be announced. The game will be broadcast on the CW.

UTAH STATE STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK NOMINATIONS
GOLF – Graduate John Cook (Agoura Hills, Calif.) tied his career-best 54-hole score with a 4-under 212 (70-72-70) and tied for 17th place at the Monterrey Collegiate Classic as he helped Utah State to a third-place team finish in the 12-team tournament. Cook now has five-career under par finishes, including three this fall. It is also his third top 20 placing this fall and the seventh of his career as he now has 21 rounds under par in his career, including seven this fall.
 
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY – Senior Caleb Armstrong (La Verkin, Utah) took eighth with a time of 26:19.36 in the men's 8K race at the Utah Open.
 
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY – Junior Elizabeth Phillips (Garland, Utah) placed third with a time of 19:00.84 in the women's 5K race at the Utah Open to help Utah State to a first-place finish out of six teams.
 
SOCCER – Junior forward Tess Werts (Portland, Oregon) helped Utah State to a 1-0-1 Mountain West record last week with a 1-0 win at UNLV and a 2-2 draw at Nevada. Werts recorded an assist in each game, her sixth and seventh assists of the season. In the win against the Rebels, Werts registered a team-high five shots to go along with her assist on the game-winner. She followed that with a shot and an assist against the Wolf Pack in 56 minutes. On the week, Wertz totaled two assists and took a team-high six shots, while starting both matches and playing a combined 127 minutes.
 
WOMEN'S TENNIS – Junior Olivia Halvorsen (Milton, Ontario, Canada) won the consolation title at the Gonzaga Invitational this past weekend as she posted a 3-1 record.
 
VOLLEYBALL – Senior opposite side hitter Adna Mehmedovic (Peoria, Ariz.) recorded a career-high .640 hitting percentage in Utah State's 3-0 home sweep against Fresno State. Mehmedovic's hitting percentage ranks as the highest in a match by any MW player this season during conference play with at least 12 attempts. She also tied for the team lead with 16 kills and did not record a single attack error across her 25 attempts. Mehmedovic also tied for the team lead with six blocks and added three digs.
