Box Score POCATELLO, Idaho – Utah State's men's tennis team competed in the Idaho State Invite this weekend, a weekend highlighted by a run to the doubles competition finals by freshmen Dmitri Goubin and Eliot Nobel.
 
The ISU invite ran from Friday, Oct. 4, through Sunday, Oct. 6, featuring players from BYU, Eastern Washington, Idaho State, Montana and Utah.
 
On day one, Goubin posted three-set wins in the round of 32 and in the round of 16 in singles play, but sophomore Keanu Rigby and Nobel were eliminated in the round of 32. In doubles play, Goubin and Nobel earned bye in the round of 16. Rigby, paired with BYU's David Duong, fell in a close doubles match that ended in a tie-break.
 
On day two in Pocatello, Goubin won his quarterfinal match in straight sets but later fell in his semifinal match. In singles consolation matches, Rigby and Nobel each posted wins in straight sets. In the doubles quarterfinals match, Goubin and Nobel earned an 8-5 win. 
 
On the last day of the invite, Goubin and Nobel got a bye in their doubles semifinal match but later fell in the finals match to Idaho State's Victor Sklenka and Valentino De Pellegrin 2-8. In extra singles matches, Nobel and Rigby both posted straight-set wins.
 
USU will be back in action on Thursday, Oct. 17, through Tuesday, Oct. 22, as it competes in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Mountain Regional Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada.
