LOGAN, Utah – After helping the No. 12 Utah State soccer team remain undefeated with a 2-0 week which included a 5-1 win over defending conference regular season champions San Diego State and a 1-0 win over New Mexico, senior defender
Kaitlyn Richins was named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week.
Richins, a native of Layton, Utah, started both matches and played 173 of a possible 180 minutes on the defensive back line as the Aggies allowed just one goal on the week with none during the run of play. As a team, the Aggies limited opponents to just a combined 11 shots, including holding New Mexico to just three. The lone goal surrendered by USU came because of a hand ball resulting in a penalty kick goal in the 89th minute for SDSU. Richins also registered three shots on the week, two of which were on frame.
This is the first MW weekly honor of Richins' career. She is the fifth Aggie to earn defensive player of the week accolades this season.
Richins and the Aggies (12-0-2, 3-0-1 MW) continue Mountain West play this week with a pair of road matches, first facing Wyoming on Thursday, Oct. 10, at 3 p.m., then playing at Colorado State on Sunday, Oct. 13, at 1 p.m.
