LOGAN, Utah — Utah State football junior
Ike Larsen has been selected for inclusion on the October Comeback Player of the Year Watch List -- presented by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) and Associated Press in association with the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl Organization.
Larsen, a 5-foot-10, 195-pound safety from Smithfield, Utah (Sky View HS), leads USU on the season with 27 solo tackles and ranks second with 37 total tackles. Larsen is also tied for the team lead with one interception and is second with two pass breakups on the year.
Prior to the season, Larsen was also named to watch lists for the Chuck Bednarik Award (awarded annually to the top defensive player in the nation), the Paycom Jim Thorpe Award Watch List (awarded annually to the best defensive back in the nation) and the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List (awarded annually the best defensive player in the nation).
Larsen was one of 10 new players added to the watch list in addition to 48 athletes originally selected in the preseason. The full revised watch list features 58 college football student-athletes from 53 different schools. Since 2018, the award has recognized college football student-athletes for overcoming injury, illness, or other circumstances. At the conclusion of each season, in a vote by a panel of college football writers, editors, and sports information directors, three college football student-athletes are honored as Comeback Player of the Year Award winners at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl.
Fall Schedule
Utah State returns to action at home against UNLV at Maverik Stadium on Friday, Oct. 11. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., on CBS Sports Network.
